Hibiscus Tequila Sour

HIBISCUS TEQUILA SOUR😍

You didn’t think I’d let you guys go into Valentine’s Day weekend without a cocktail recipe did you? There’s nothing like a pink cocktail to set the mood right for Galentine’s parties, romantic dinners, or for a rom com chill night in with your pooch. Tangy, frothy, just sweet enough, this cocktail hits on all fronts - and it’s gorgeous to look at too ;)  You’re gonna love this one!

Tips before you start:

  • If you’re weirded out by egg whites in your cocktails, feel free to leave it out but it adds nothing to the taste and gives it a really nice froth.

  • The coupe glasses I have are sold out, but I linked similar ones here.

  • If you can’t find hibiscus flowers, try to look for a white tea with hibiscus leaves - this will work fine too.

  • The hibiscus syrup will make enough for about 2 servings. If you want more than one cocktail, I recommend doubling the recipe to account for that.

  • In order to get the right froth, it is imperative to shake the egg white first with the other ingredients prior to adding ice, then shaking with ice until your hand gets very cold.

Serves 1.

Ingredients:

For the Hibiscus Tequila Sour:

  • 3oz silver tequila (I like Casamigos)

  • 1oz fresh lemon juice

  • 2 tbsps hibiscus simple syrup (recipe below)

  • 1 egg white

  • Hibiscus flowers to top (optional)

  • Ice

For the Hibiscus Simple Syrup (Makes 2 servings):

  • ½ cup water

  • ¼ cup sugar

  • ¼ cup dried hibiscus flowers

Directions:

For the Hibiscus Tequila Sour:

  • Start by making the hibiscus simple syrup. Add water, sugar, and hibiscus to a small saucepan and bring to a boil. Whisk constantly until the sugar is dissolved.

  • Reduce and simmer for 5 minutes, then shut off the heat and let stand for 5 additional minutes.

  • Strain into a jar and let cool.

  • Add tequila, lemon juice, and hibiscus simple syrup to a cocktail shaker and shake for 10 seconds.

  • Add in the egg white and shake for 15 seconds.

  • Add the ice and shake vigorously for 10-15 seconds or until your hand is very cold. Strain into a glass and enjoy!
