Air Fryer Korean Inspired Chicken Wings!
Air Fryer Korean Inspired Chicken Wings!
This is one of those lick your fingers sauces where you don’t realize how many wings you have eaten until you look at your plate and it looks like a massacre occurred. It’s also one of those random sauces that’s a product of spring cleaning and trying to use up the 3 cabinets worth of condiments and spices I have in my kitchen and WOW am I happy with the result! Equal parts sweet, spicy, tangy, and packed with flavor through and through, you gotta make these ASAP!
Ingredients:
For the Air Fryer Korean Style Chicken Wings:
2 lbs chicken wings
½ cup neutral oil
1 head of garlic finely minced
3 tbsps ginger finely minced
½ grated onion
3 tbsps lemongrass
¼ cup gochugaru flakes
4 oz gochujang (about ½ cup)
¼ cup peanut butter
¼ cup hoisin sauce
2 tbsps soy sauce
2 tbsps sriracha
Directions:
For the Korean Inspired BBQ Sauce:
Heat oil in a small sauce pan
Add in garlic, ginger, onion, and lemongrass and cook down for about 15-20 minutes
Add in gochugaru, gochujang, peanut butter, hoisin sauce, soy sauce, and sriracha and stir
Simmer for 45 minutes until flavors fully develop
Taste as you go! This is so important, as you want the flavor to be balanced to your taste – like things spicier? Add more gochugaru or sriracha. Like it a bit sweeter? Add more hoisin sauce. Totally up to your preference!
For the Air Fryer Korean Inspired Wings:
Place all wings into a Ziploc and pour ¾ of the cooled sauce over (save the rest for later).
Refrigerate overnight or at least 2 hours
Spray your air fryer basket with some oil to avoid sticking
Add in wings in a single layer (you will need to do this in batches for ultimate crispiness)
Air Fry the wings at 400 degrees for about 14 minutes, flipping 2-3 times throughout the process
Meanwhile, heat the rest of the sauce in a saucepan
Once wings are done, brush them with extra sauce and serve!
