Thai Basil Turkey (Pad Krapow)
THAI BASIL TURKEY (PAD KRAPOW)😍
Taking whole new meanings to faster and better than takeout, this Thai Basil turkey can be on your table in less than 15 minutes. It’s one of my absolute favorite weeknight dinners because it’s loaded with flavor, protein, and incredibly filling.
Ingredients:
For the Thai Basil Turkey:
1 lb ground turkey (or ground chicken)
1 bunch thai basil
2 shallots, sliced thinly
2-3 birds eye chilies, diced (depending on spice preference)
4 cloves minced garlic
1/4 cup chicken broth
2 tbsps fish sauce
1 tbsp soy sauce
1 tbsp oyster sauce (optional but highly recommended - can sub for more soy sauce)
2 tsps white sugar
1 tsp avocado oil or high smoke point oil
Rice, for serving
Lime wedges, for serving
Fried egg to top (optional but highly recommended)
Directions:
For the Thai Basil Turkey:
Heat a large skillet to medium high and drizzle in a bit of oil. Add the shallots and chilies and cook on medium heat for 3-4 minutes until soft.
Add garlic and cook for 1 minute more.
Return the heat to high and add ground turkey to the skillet, breaking into bits with a wooden spoon.
Once no longer pink, add in the oyster sauce, soy sauce, fish sauce, and sugar. Cook for 1 minute on medium high, then add the chicken broth. Simmer for 2-3 minutes or until the sauce absorbs into the turkey.
Shut off the heat and add in the Thai basil. Toss for 1-2 minutes, or until the residual heat from the pan slightly wilts the basil.
Add to a bowl with rice and top with fried egg and a squeeze of lime juice. Enjoy!
