Sesame Crusted Ahi Tuna Salad

SESAME CRUSTED AHI TUNA SALAD😍

I make variations of this salad way too often because it’s just SO easy! Takes less than 10 minutes to make and tastes like a salad that would cost you $18 in a fancy restaurant. Sesame crusted ahi, a tangy savory dressing, that pairs well with the pepperiness of the arugula, it’s a recipe you’ll keep coming back to over and over again!

Serves 2.

Ingredients:

For the Sesame Crusted Ahi Tuna:

  • 2 high quality ahi tuna filets

  • 1 tbsp sesame oil

  • ¼ cup sesame seeds

  • Salt to taste

  • 1 tbsp avocado oil (or vegetable or canola)

For the Seared Ahi Salad:

  • 2 cups arugula or preferred salad greens

  • 1 tbsp sesame oil

  • 1 tbsp soy sauce or coconut aminos (if using coconut aminos add a pinch of salt)

  • 1 tsp rice vinegar

  • 2 tsps grated ginger

  • 1 tsp grated garlic

  • 1 tsp honey (optional)

  • 1 tsp neutral oil

  • Juice from 1 small lime

  • Optional salad toppings: cucumber, avocado, edamame, radishes

Directions:

For the Sesame Crusted Ahi Tuna Salad:

  • Add your sesame seeds to a plate and pat dry your tuna steaks. Season with salt and the sesame oil and rub all over. Coat the tuna on all sides with the sesame seeds.

  • Get a cast iron or nonstick skillet really hot (it should sizzle if you spray water), then add the avocado oil. Add the tuna steaks and sear for 45-60 seconds per side. Remove from the pan and set aside.

  • In a mason jar or jar with tight fitting lid, add in the sesame oil, soy sauce or coconut aminos, rice vinegar, grated ginger, grated garlic, honey, neutral oil, and lime juice. Shake vigorously until well combined and taste to adjust seasonings.

  • Toss the arugula with a little bit of the dressing at a time (you may not use all of it so start small). Slice the tuna steaks and place on top of the salad with desired toppings. Enjoy!
